Vintage bottles of Taubes copal painting medium and Taubes copal varnish formulated by Frederic Taubes and sold by Permanent Pigments Inc., a Cincinnati, OH company (that later became Liquitex). Sold together as a set.
The Painting Medium (16 fl oz bottle) is full, appears unused, “for thinning paints, for use in underpainting, final painting, and glazing. Has excellent drying and adhesive properties. Composition: pure linseed stand oil, pure linseed oil, pure finest quality congo copal resin, pure gum spirits turpentine, and petroleum dstillate.” Retails for $20-40 online, and similar mediums go for a minimum of $15 online.
The Copal Varnish (2.5 fl oz bottle) is ¾ full. “For use as an intermediate or final picture varnish.” Goes for $12-25 per bottle online.
